Smart Tips For Safe Christmas Shopping

When I was a kid, my heart skipped a beat every time I thought about Christmas. The anticipation of getting gifts was enough to cheer me up and make a thrill rush through me. Even today, the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is a time for love, joy and hope for everyone.

More than anything else, it’s a time for shopping for gifts for all your family, friends and acquaintances. It’s also the time for criminals to look for innocent people who can be unassuming victims of theft and vandalism at this busy time of the year.

While making purchases for your loved ones, you must ensure that it is done in a secure manner. You won’t be targeted while browsing through a big sale in the departmental store, nor would it happen while you carry the presents to your car in the parking lot. Mostly, criminals observe people who are careless and not alert during their shopping sessions.

If you become a little more careful and alert while looking for Christmas shopping, your common sense will pay off. Instead of being a bad memory, Christmas can be the fun and memorable event it really is!

Here are some tips that will enable you to become a smart, safe shopper:

i. It’s best to shop during the daytime. Many thefts and criminal incidents happen after dark.
ii. When you are planning to go shopping, dress in comfortable clothes and shoes.
iii. If you are shopping after dark, try to find a parking space that is well lit.
iv. Don’t leave the house without proper identification at any time.
v. Use your credit card for shopping instead of carrying large amounts of cash. That’s risky!
vi. I’d suggest you to avoid wearing expensive jewelry or accessories while shopping. It will prevent you from getting any undue attention.
vii. Always carry cash in your front pockets or a purse that’s easy to handle.
viii. Put your purchases in the trunk of your car or other locked vehicle.
ix. If you see any strangers in the parking lot and feel insecure about it, ask someone to escort you to your car.
x. Don’t forget to lock your car door, even though it doesn’t work as very effective means of safety.
xi. Also, you must keep your car keys ready when you leave the store after completing your shopping trip.
xii. It’s not a good idea to overload yourself with Christmas presents which restrict your vision and movements.
xiii. A personal protection device should be carried at all times, to be used at the time of emergency.

Holiday shopping is meant to be relaxed and enjoyable but a small amount of caution is required so that your Christmas is not spoiled by any unwanted happening. Always remain alert while shopping for your loved ones as well as after coming out of the shopping mall.

I hope these tips will help you have a lovely and safe holiday season this year.
Merry Christmas!

Kids are my favorite family members but they are also the hardest to please when it is time for selecting holiday or birthday gifts. It should be fun, interesting, attractive and most importantly, last for a fairly long time.

To get a gift with all these qualities and not break the bank seems to be a very difficult task. Not any more…here are a few fantastic ideas for making your gift shopping experience a successful and affordable one.

Books
Young minds are very curious and crave for new ideas, thoughts and stories. Younger kids can be gifted storybooks and fun puzzles to keep them interested for longer periods of time. For mature kids, there is science-fi or encyclopedias that can be an informative and interesting gift. If you are unable to decide about the right book, just settle for activity books for that age group or the latest bestseller.

Craft sets
Craft and hobby gifts are a great way to keep children engaged for a long time. Ask their parents for knowing about their interests and hobbies, be it cooking, gardening, science, sewing, building or any other activity. You can easily choose from a wide range of crafty gifts like science kits, art sets, cookbooks, sticker sets, vehicle model sets, etc.

Games
You can buy board games at any local store. Some of the most popular ones include Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Monopoly, Uno, Life and Sorry. These games have a unique quality of getting the family together and spending quality time with the kids. Apart from board games, video games are also a current favorite among kids as well as teenagers.

Kids can start saving money from an early age if you gift them a money bank. It’s the perfect way to learn counting as well.

Bean bag
All kids like to sit in bean bags. They are very comfortable and can even be shifted from one room to another.

Receiving mail with their name on it really excites kids. Get a magazine subscription for them as a gift. Choose their favorite magazine to make them happy for a long time. Top magazines include Nick, Spider, BabyBug, RangerRick, ZooBooks, Kids Discover, Jack and Jill, Your Big Backyard, etc.

Another gift idea is a magazine subscription. Kids love to receive mail and a magazine subscription allows them to receive mail of their own and they may also learn something. Fun magazines for kids include National Geographic for Kids, Time for Kids, Nick, Cricket, Spider, BabyBug, Tracks, RangerRick, ZooBooks, Kids Discover, Jack and Jill, Your Big Backyard and the old stalwart, Highlights.
